In Memoriam

Compatriot Stephen Wayne Boulton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Boulton, 66, on December 19, 2024. Steve was born on September 6, 1958, and spent his life serving others, building relationships, and cherishing the outdoors. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones. Steve is survived by his wife, Tina Robinson Boulton, his brother, Brian Boulton, and their families.

Steve had an extraordinary career in public service as a firefighter, paramedic, and water rescue team member with the Prince William County Fire Department, where he proudly served his community for many years. He eventually retired as a Lieutenant, leaving behind a legacy of bravery, dedication, and selflessness. Towards the end of his career, Steve took on the role of river boat captain, where he guided passengers on scenic trips along the Potomac River, sharing his love for the area and his passion for its waters.

A man of many talents and interests, Steve was also a proud member of the Northern Virginia Emerald Society Pipe Band. As both a Piper and Pipe Major Emeritus, Steve played his bagpipes in parades, ceremonies, and most memorably, for the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial each year. This annual performance was his way of honoring those who had lost their lives in the line of duty, reflecting his deep respect for his fellow first responders.

Steve was passionate about history, ancestry, and the stories of those who came before us. He dedicated much of his time to helping others uncover their lineage, sharing his love for the past and his appreciation for the connections that bind generations. Steve was also a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Confederate Veterans, organizations that reflected his deep respect for history and heritage. Whether it was talking about history for hours or going on a hunt, Steve had a way of making every conversation fascinating.

Though Steve did not have children of his own, he found his soulmate in Tina later in life. Tina brought love, joy, and a family that Steve embraced wholeheartedly. He became a beloved Pop-pop to Tina’s grandchildren, showering them with affection and wisdom. Steve’s love for family and the great outdoors brought him great happiness, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved.

A devoted outdoorsman and hunter, Steve found peace and fulfillment in nature. He lived his life with a spirit of adventure and a heart full of love for his family and community. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the values he instilled in those around him.

Steve’s memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him. He was a man of honor, kindness, and strength—someone who lived with purpose and loved with all his heart. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on December 27, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Zoan Baptist Church, 5888 Plank Rd., Fredericksburg, VA. The viewing begins at 11 a.m. and a reception will be held at the church following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Northern Virginia Emerald Society Pipe Band.
